Our Process

Onboarding as a New Client

Our goal is to completely onboard new clients within 3 months or one quarter.  During this process, we will hold 2-3 meetings where we create your baseline financial plan that details:

  • Your current financial picture
  • Our analysis and recommendations
  • Action steps for you and our team to start implementing

The baseline financial plan is comprehensive and covers all key areas of your financial life: goals, assets & liabilities, cash flow, investments, taxes, retirement, education funding, insurance, and estate planning.

Once onboarding is complete, you will transition to our regular client service calendar, which includes: 

  • Annual Review Meeting - To update all areas of your baseline financial plan 
  • Proactive touchpoints related to areas of your plan 
  • Individualized follow-up on key action items 
  • An open door for all emails, calls, or meetings that you need as your life changes (i.e., starting a new job, buying a new home, transitioning into retirement)

Hi, I'm Liz Alf, principal of Clerestory Advisors. When we meet with new folks, they often want to know, one, why do clients choose you? And two, what does it look like to work with you? I'm here to answer those questions.

Why Clients Choose Clerestory

For the first question, it's actually easy for me to answer why clients choose to work with us because I've asked them. The most common answers I've heard are, one, we're a small firm that serves our clients with a level of service that we would use for a family member or close friend. We're not just a business relationship. Two, we develop deep relationships with our clients so that we come to know their unique goals and priorities. This means we don't assign prescriptive cookie cutter plans onto clients, but rather listen to clients to create personalized plans together. And three, we're always there for our clients. There's no limit on meetings, phone calls or emails so that we can be there when you need us.

What Does it Look Like to Work With Clerestory?

For the second question, what does it look like to work with us? New clients will go through our onboarding process where we complete a thorough review of all aspects of your financial life and build our foundational plan. This means we are gathering a lot of information from you and engaging in several meetings over the course of three to four months. After onboarding, clients will transition into our regular ongoing service calendar. This involves an annual meeting where we will update all aspects of your foundational plan and check your progress to goals, regular communication to help you implement any action items. We identified together our team implementing tax strategies on the backend investment work at Schwab, support with outside accounts and more. Finally, we're always here to help support you when new things happen. From a new job to a new baby, to a new home, to a new retirement. We're just a phone call or email away when you need to adjust your plans.


Financial Advisor Fees for Clerestory Clients 

Pre-Retirees

Our minimum flat fee is $10,000/year and is best suited for those with at least $1 ML in investable assets.

We set flat fees based on the assets we will help you manage, as well as the complexity of your planning needs.  These typically range between $10,000- $25,000/yr.

Young Families 

Our minimum flat fee for those at least 10 years from retirement is $4,000/year.

Clients who have other factors adding to complexity will have a higher initial fee, ranging between $5,000- 7,000/year.
